Category Archives: And I Write Things

Masquerade: 1.1

I’ve talked about it. I’ve referred to it. I’ve been afraid of it, in awe of it, and disgusted by it. I’ve overhauled it, scrapped it, resurrected it, condemned it, and redeemed it.

And now I’m releasing it.

AND illustrating it, because making art fights heartburn, and making this particular art fights fascism in more ways than one.

I’ll be posting the full text of each segment here and the illustrated version with HOLY ALT-TEXT BATMAN at Tumblr. Be advised that both will be considered under construction until the full story is told. Revisions affecting plot, if any are made, will be noted, linked and briefly explained on each post in both locations; minor revisions and consistency/copy edits will be tracked but not expounded upon.

I’m sofa king mad right now

So I’ve got this “write things” tag but I have yet to say anything, here, about the big things I write. I’ve been working in my continuity for most of my life now (wow, self, way to make us feel old), but took most of it down from its old home when a book-theft scandal made it clear that some person or AI was eventually going to scrape my work and try to sell it. From “Far Beyond the Stars” to “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow:” Where did we go wrong?

I’m going to start out by stating, in no uncertain terms, that I do not intend to definitively answer the question posed by the title. Partly that’s because it’s not about us per se, but Trek, and talking about what’s wrong with Trek is a good way to dig yourself into someone else’s hole. Partly it’s because I feel like it should be obvious what went wrong, and trying to explain that to someone who doesn’t think it was wrong at all is another case of banging one’s head against a wall. But mostly it’s because the episodes, taken together, explain the point exactly…if you’re listening.

And just to be clear, because there are new fans out there and not every old one binges at the same rate: SPOILERS. (For the episodes of DS9 and SNW in the title, and many things that lead up to them.)
